Medicine Hat's pop culture convention returns to the Stampede Pavilion this weekend, bringing voice actors, cosplay guests, Pokémon tournaments, and a Gremlins screening to the city.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — The Gas City Entertainment Expo runs October 17 and 18 at the Stampede Pavilion. Admission is $10 at the door.

Voice Actors Headline Guest Roster

Calgary-based voice actors Mike Anthony and Nancy Situ are this year's featured guests, both affiliated with The Mercenary Co. Voice Acting School and Studio.

Anthony has spent over 25 years as an actor, with more than 12 years in voiceover work spanning video games (Evolutis: Duality, The Ballad Singer, Beyond the Oaks), radio dramas, commercials, and film narration. He founded The Mercenary Co., where he now works as a teacher, casting director, and talent coordinator. Attendees can find him at the Merc Co. panels and table discussing voice acting and "various nerdy topics."

Situ brings 15 years of voiceover experience to the Expo, with credits including Zenless Zone Zero, Farlight84, Eggy Party, and anime dubs such as Cardfight Vanguard and Just Esperia Things. She has also worked on interactive voice recordings and an audiobook. At the Merc Co. table, she's happy to chat about voice acting — and food.

Cosplay Guests and a Rising Star

The cosplay lineup includes freaki.kiki.cos, described by organizers as "a fresh new face in the cosplay community." A 2025 champion of the Expo's all-around costume contest, she returns this year as a special guest. Organizers are encouraging attendees to "come meet her, support her journey, and see where her cosplay adventure takes her."

She joins fellow cosplay guests Juan Gallardo, BeatBot, Shiann Collins, and Inkblot Cos.

Pokémon Tournament with $500 Prize Pool

XPerience Play is hosting a Pokémon Champions tournament with a $500 prize pool. The tournament runs on a hybrid model — players can compete online or in person at the event.

Entry fee: $10
Start time: 11 a.m. October 18
Registration: Via PayPal, sign-up through Limitless

XPerience Play is also running an Elite Four Challenge both days. Players can take their Pokémon Champions team through a gauntlet of trainers to become the Medicine Hat Expo Champion.

Gremlins Kicks Off the Weekend at the Monarch Theatre

Before the Expo opens, the Gas City Entertainment Expo and the Monarch Theatre are partnering for a screening of the 1984 classic Gremlins on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 cash only, and concessions are running a special: any two items for $5, cash only.

Organizers warn: "Whatever you do… DON'T FEED THEM AFTER MIDNIGHT!"

Warhammer and Idols

For those curious about tabletop gaming, Todd Sabean is hosting a learn-to-play Warhammersession. No experience or equipment is needed — everything is provided, and beginners are welcome.

Westcan Idols also returns to the Expo, bringing idol performances to the Stampede Pavilion. The group announced the return of "Idol Gas City Entertainment Expo 2026" with a call to "join us in making a show to remember."
