Get ‘Fired Up’ at Medalta’s Free 40th Birthday Party!
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Big news for families, art lovers, and anyone looking for a fun day out: Medalta in the Historic Clay District is turning 40 years old, and they are throwing a giant, free party to celebrate!
The event is called “Fired Up!” and it takes place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at 713 Medalta Ave SE.
This special day is part of Medalta’s “Legacy Series.” For four decades, The Friends of Medalta Society has worked hard to protect and share Medicine Hat’s amazing history of making clay pots, bricks, and art. Now, they want to say thank you to the community with a day full of fun, learning, and creativity.
Fun for Every Age
The best part? The whole event is free, and there is something for everyone. You can drop in anytime and stay as long as you like.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
Hands-On Clay Fun: Kids can try sensory stations and interactive clay activities. There will even be a mini pop-up museum!
Live Demos: Watch skilled artists show how clay is shaped, fired, and turned into art right before your eyes.
Community Clay Project: Join a special outdoor sculpture project led by Medalta’s famous international artists.
Behind-the-Scenes Tours: Explore the Shaw Centre for Contemporary Ceramics and meet the artists living and working at Medalta right now.
Fun & Games: Take a silly photo at the kiln-side selfie station, or play giant yard games sponsored by Grand Rental Station.
Roaming Tours: No need to book a time. Just jump on a short tour in the museum whenever you feel like it.
A cash and card bar will also be on site for adults.

Sarah Schatz, the Events Coordinator at Medalta, says this day is about more than just having fun (though there will be plenty of that).
“As both the Events Coordinator and a historian, I feel a great responsibility to honour the stories held within these walls,” Schatz said. “Events like this aren’t just gatherings; they’re a way of connecting people to the past, to each other, and to the creative spirit that continues to define Medalta today. Please join us as we celebrate 40 years of preservation and revitalization!”
