AB Gov. Posts Official Referendum Question on Future Of Alberta
The following is the referendum questions Albertans will have regarding the future of Alberta within Canada.
1. The referendum question to be put to the electors, and to which an elector who votes in the referendum must respond by selecting only one option, shall be:
Should Alberta remain a province of Canada, or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?
Option 1: Alberta should remain a province of Canada.
Option 2: The Government of Alberta should commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada.
2 . the referendum is to be held separately as a stand-alone referendum on October 19, 2026;
3. the referendum is to be held in the entirety of the Province of Alberta;
4. the result of the referendum is not to be binding;
5. the referendum is not to be conducted by mail-in ballot, which does not prevent advance voting as defined in the Election Act, or voting by a Special Ballot or a Secure Special Ballot as provided for in the Election Act.
