Updated - Echo Dale Park Remains Closed Following Death of Child

The MHPS issued the following statement Tuesday morning.
The Medicine Hat Police Service can confirm the child involved in the incident at Echo Dale Regional Park on June 15, 2026, has since died. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation; however, foul play is not suspected.
Our thoughts are with the child’s family, classmates, school staff, first responders, and all those affected by this tragic incident. Out of respect for the privacy of the child and the family, no further details will be released.
Medicine Hat – June 16 2026 – Echo Dale Regional Park will remain closed until further notice following a serious incident on Monday afternoon that sent an 11-year-old child in hospital.
The Medicine Hat Police Service issued an update confirming the park closure. The department stated that its thoughts are with all those affected at this time.
Police responded to a report of a missing child at the park at approximately 2:17 p.m. Emergency crews searched the area and located the child around 3:30 p.m. The child was taken to hospital by Emergency Medical Services. The family has been notified.
The child was attending a school event at the park at the time. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Police are not releasing further details out of respect for the privacy of the child and the family.
