Medicine Hat is set to observe the 9th annual International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) with a free community event focused on remembrance, education, and harm reduction. The gathering is scheduled for August 31 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, taking place beside the Medicine Hat Public Library.

Organized by the Medicine Hat Drug Coalition in partnership with the library and the City of Medicine Hat, the event offers a range of activities designed to support the community.
Attendees can participate in reflection stations, an open mic, and a community art collaboration, alongside memorial opportunities to honor loved ones. Indigenous drumming and dancing are also planned, and free naloxone training will be available.
A community BBQ will be served at 5:00 PM.
The event emphasizes education and resource sharing, with information booths available throughout the afternoon. The city's involvement highlights a community-wide commitment to addressing the overdose crisis and supporting those affected by substance use.
