Medicine Hat

If you have no plans for tonight, the old Ogilvie Flour Mill is the place to be.

The Dead Man's Dinner is happening TONIGHT, turning the historic landmark into a full-blown murder mystery party.

Think Wild West vibes, good grub from the Medicine Hat Brewing Company, and a bunch of folks dressed up like they stepped out of a history book.

The band HYENA hits the stage after the killer is revealed to keep the party rolling.

This is an 18+ event, tickets are $90 each and include the meal, show and dancing.

The Grain to Glory Festival keeps the fun going Saturday with a free family-friendly day of food trucks, local vendors, and live entertainment.

BOWLING LANES GET A GLOW UP

While the festival is making noise, preparations for next week's big event are getting serious. Panorama Lanes just finished some major upgrades to get ready for the Special Olympics athletes. Tenpin bowling is one of the 10 sports on the schedule, and more than 1,000 athletes from across the country are coming to compete.

THE BIG SHOW STARTS TUESDAY

The 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games opening ceremony is on Tuesday, August 11. The games start on Monday August 10, and run right through to Saturday, August 15. Events include Athletics, Basketball, Soccer, Swimming, Golf, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, and more. These athletes are not just here to have fun. They are gunning for personal bests and a shot at the podium. For a lot of them, this is also the big qualifier for the World Games in Chile next year.

GOV GEN IS ROLLING INTO TOWN

This is a first for Medicine Hat. Governor General of Canada Louise Arbour is coming to town from August 10 to 13. She will be the first Governor General to ever attend the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games. She is giving the opening remarks at Co-op Place on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

She is not just there for the opening ceremony, either. The Governor General is planning to hit up a bunch of events. She is checking out bowling Monday night at Panorama Lanes, then softball right after. Tuesday she is watching basketball, soccer, and bocce before the big ceremony. Wednesday she is at golf, more soccer, and track events like the 200-metre race and shot put. She is even handing out medals for the wheelchair races and helping serve lunch to volunteers. Thursday she is watching gymnastics, swimming, and powerlifting.

BIG WEEK FOR THE HAT

Whether you are chasing down clues at the Mill tonight, hitting up the festival on Saturday, or gearing up to cheer on the athletes next week, the Hat is the place to be. The city has been getting ready for months, and it is all coming together. Grab a lawn chair, make a sign, and go support some amazing athletes. This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of week for Medicine Hat.
