Geraldine…presented a case from 2020 about Ottawa police detaining people three separate times for writing messages in chalk on public sidewalks. In June of that year, a woman was detained for writing "Black Lives Matter" in chalk. Police threatened to charge her with mischief because she did not have permission. The very next day, Ottawa's mayor Jim Watson tweeted that his permission was not needed to chalk on the sidewalk.
Owl News Launches Community Water Safety Initiative
The Owl News Water Safety Initiative (working title - subject to change) will seek to install self-serve lifejacket loaner stations at certain spots along the South Saskatchewan River. The stations will be simple, weatherproof boxes filled with free lifejackets.

Today for the first time in years, we have transit running on a holiday! You can now get up to the free events at the Big Marble Go Centre without a car. Kudos to the Public Services Department which decided that they had enough money to fund three holiday service days this year.
Breaking - Medicine Hat’s Homeless to Be Left in The Cold
At tonight’s council meeting we heard that the province had denied additional funding for more shelter beds this winter. This means that unless the City does something, more of our people will be shivering in the cold.
