Jury Trial Adjourned Due To Medical Issue

The jury trial of a 52-year-old city man on charges of making child pornography, extortion, sexual interference and assault is being adjourned for two weeks due to a medical issue with someone involved in the trial.

The charges stem from offence dates from 2018 to 2020 when the complainant was between 15 and 17 years old with charges being laid in the fall of 2021.

The Owl is not identifying the complainant due to a publication ban protecting their identity nor is identifying the accused due to the nature of the relationship between the two.

The scheduled seven-day trial began on April 20 but the jury has only heard limited direct examination testimony of the complainant over that period.

Cross-examination of the complainant and other witness testimony is anticipated when the trial resumes on May 13.
