Sextortion Trial Of City Man Continues This Week

The jury trial of a 52-year-old city man facing charges of sexual interference and assault as well as extortion and making child pornography continues this week with a pattern of hearing testimony in fits and starts.

The scheduled seven-day Court of King’s Bench trial started at the beginning of last week with the jury hearing testimony from the complainant who was between 15 and 17 years old at the time of the allegations.

The testimony heard so far has been direct examination from the Crown which wrapped up on Thursday following a limited amount heard on Monday and Wednesday afternoon last week.

The Owl is not identifying the complainant due to a publication ban protecting their identity nor is identifying the accused due to the nature of the relationship between the two.

The trial testimony continued its pattern established last week with the jury excused Monday during what was expected to be the beginning of cross-examination.

The jury is anticipated to return to court today.

A trial continuance is also expected to be scheduled.
