Convoy Headed To Ottawa

There is a new  convoy headed for Ottawa this week, they are stopping in Medicine Hat for the night. They will be leaving from the Saamis Tepee in the morning, you can catch them at 9am. The photo below is from a post on their Facebook page. You might recognize a few of the people below.

No semi trucks, no yellow vests (but they do have yellow shirts), no flying of flags or honking of horns.

Indeed this convoy is very quiet thanks to their EVs.

Seniors Climate Witness is joining Seniors For Climate, For Our Kids and Fridays For Future Canada  on a trip to Ottawa to coincide with the return to Parliament to advocate for more federal action on climate change.

Their Demands of Ottawa

Seniors Climate Witness says the following

Timed for the opening of Parliament, the week of September 19, seniors, people of faith, and allies from across Canada will travel in caravans to gather in Ottawa for Seniors’ Climate Witness.

We call on the Government of Canada to:

  • Reject any federal funding or support for new fossil fuel pipelines and related infrastructure and respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Canada's commitments to reconciliation.

  • Reaffirm Canada's commitment to meeting its climate targets by accelerating the transition to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate resilience.

  • Meet with representatives of the campaign—including seniors, Indigenous leaders, youth, and faith representatives—to discuss how Canada can better protect present and future generations from the growing impacts of climate change.

The aim is to encourage the federal government to reject new publicly funded fossil fuel pipelines and strengthen Canada 's climate commitments by investing in a clean, affordable and just low-carbon future. Seniors’ Climate Witness will engage in actions intended to draw national media attention, and to heighten public awareness.

The Owl caught up with them at a charging station and spoke with Michael Polanyi.

The interview will be linked as soon as it is uploaded to Youtube.

This convoy started in Victoria while another group starts from Nova Scotia, they plan to meet in Ottawa with seniors from all over.

Here is the interactive map of their journey.
