Updated - Chalk Trials and Closed Meetings: Graffiti Bylaw Back on Agenda
After five months of no progress the Governance Committee has finally put the graffiti bylaw back on the agenda. They meet tomorrow to talk about it. They want to do it behind closed doors because apparently, fixing a bylaw that treats chalk the same as spray paint is top secret information.

A jurisdictional scan of other municipalities done by The Owl shows that they do not differentiate between permanent and non permanent graffiti mediums. Of course there is no way to scan for how many graffiti tickets were issued for chalk.

Under this law, chalk is legally the same as spray paint. The bylaw also doesn't mention sidewalks. But spray paint on a sidewalk is clearly graffiti. So if chalking a building is graffiti, then chalking a sidewalk is also graffiti. Every hopscotch grid. Every "you are loved" message. All of it. Illegal.
